Ingredients
  

For the Beef and Broth
  • 3 pounds Beef Roast Chuck or round cuts
  • 4 cups Beef Broth Low-sodium recommended
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce Low-sodium recommended
For the Flavoring
  • 1 large Onion Yellow or white
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Adjust if using fresh
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Can be omitted
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme Fresh thyme works too
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Adjust to taste
  • 2 teaspoons Salt Reduce for a healthier choice
For the Gravy
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch Mix with water
  • 1/4 cup Water For slurry
For Serving
  • 6 slices Bread White or whole grain
  • 4 cups Mashed Potatoes Creamy variety

Method
 

Preparation and Cooking
  1. Slice the onions and place them at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Lay the beef roast on top of the onions, and pour in beef broth until it mostly submerges the meat.
  3. Add Worcestershire and soy sauce for added flavor.
  4. Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, black pepper, and salt over the roast; rub the spices in.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.
  6. Remove the beef, shred it, and reserve the broth.
  7. Strain the broth, mix cornstarch and water, add to broth and simmer until thickened.
  8. Serve by layering bread, mashed potatoes, shredded beef, and gravy.
