Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Add salt to the water.
  2. Once boiling, add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente (about 8-10 minutes). Stir occasionally.
  3. While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and stir for 2-3 minutes until golden.
  4. Sprinkle in red pepper flakes to taste. Reserve ½ cup of pasta cooking water, then drain the spaghetti.
  5. Add the spaghetti to the skillet with garlic oil. Toss to combine.
  6. Gradually add reserved pasta water, tossing the spaghetti for 2-3 minutes until coated.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in freshly chopped parsley. Optionally add Parmesan cheese. Toss well.
  8. Divide among plates, finishing with additional parsley and lemon zest if desired. Serve immediately.
