  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar Adjust to taste
  • 1 large Egg Beaten, for filling and egg wash
For the Topping
  • 1/4 cup Sliced Almonds Optional, for added crunch
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered Sugar For dusting before serving

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out thawed puff pastry on a floured surface to form a rectangle about 1/8-inch thick.
  3. In a bowl, mix almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half the beaten egg until smooth.
  4. Spread the almond filling evenly over the center third of the pastry.
  5. Make diagonal cuts on both sides of the pastry and fold them over the filling to create a braid.
  6. Brush the top with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle sliced almonds if desired.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown, then let cool for a few minutes.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving.
