Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out thawed puff pastry on a floured surface to form a rectangle about 1/8-inch thick.
- In a bowl, mix almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half the beaten egg until smooth.
- Spread the almond filling evenly over the center third of the pastry.
- Make diagonal cuts on both sides of the pastry and fold them over the filling to create a braid.
- Brush the top with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle sliced almonds if desired.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown, then let cool for a few minutes.
- Dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving.
