Step-by-Step Instructions for Dutch Pancakes
- Warm 1 cup of milk in a small saucepan to between 90 to 100°F (32-38°C). Remove from heat, sprinkle in 2 teaspoons of SAF Instant Yeast, and stir gently to dissolve. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Whisk until evenly blended.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the bowl with dry ingredients, add 1 large egg, and stir gently until just combined. Allow the batter to rest.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and let the batter rise in a warm spot for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the poffertjes pan over medium heat and generously grease each divot with 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Fill each divot halfway with batter, approximately 1 tablespoon each. Cook for 1-2 minutes until tiny bubbles form.
- Flip each poffertje using a skewer and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from the pan, serve warm with powdered sugar, butter, or your favorite toppings.
