Ingredients
  

For the Fish
  • 1 lb thick-cut cod or substitute with haddock or tilapia
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter or extra olive oil for dairy-free
  • 1 tbsp chili powder or smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp paprika sweet or smoked based on taste
  • 1 tsp ground cumin omit if needed
  • 1 tsp garlic powder or adjust with fresh garlic
  • 1 tsp onion powder or replace with fresh onion in slaw
  • to taste black pepper
  • to taste salt
  • to taste cayenne pepper adjust to control heat
For the Slaw
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage (red and/or green) can substitute with coleslaw mix or lettuce
  • 1 tbsp lime juice or lemon juice
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro or parsley if needed
For the Sriracha Mayo
  • ½ cup low-fat mayonnaise or Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp sriracha adjust based on desired heat
  • 1 tsp sugar omit for a sugar-free option
For the Tortillas
  • 4 6-inch tortillas corn tortillas for gluten-free option

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the spice rub by combining chili powder, paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  3. Cook the seasoned cod for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes until flaky.
  4. For the cilantro slaw, mix 2 cups of shredded cabbage, juice of 1 lime, ¼ cup of chopped cilantro, and a pinch of salt and black pepper in a bowl.
  5. Whisk together ½ cup of mayonnaise, juice of a lime, 2 tablespoons of sriracha, and 1 teaspoon of sugar until smooth for the sriracha mayo.
  6. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet, then assemble each taco with fish, slaw, and sriracha mayo.
